A monster dad left his four-month-old son to rot to death in a maggot-filled nappy which wasn't changed for two weeks.

Zachary Paul Koehn, 29, has been found guilty of murder after little Sterling Koehn caught an E. coli infection and died.

The infant was in such a filthy state when a nurse found him dead at home in Iowa, US, that gnats flew off his body.

A court heard Koehn had left the tot in a the swing in a "hot, stuffy room" in Alta Vista for two weeks in the same nappy.

The nappy had attracted insects, including maggots, and the faeces "broke through his skin," the prosecution told the court.

Now Koehn has been convicted of murder and child endangerment, after jurors took less than an hour to deliberate.

He faces life in jail.

The boy's mum Cheyanne Harris, 21, pleaded not guilty to the same charges and faces a separate trial.

The jury had heard how Sterling weighed just 7lbs, lighter than some newborns, after he died of malnutrition, dehydration and the infection in August 2017.
