Lagos School Drivers Nabbed For ‘S*xually Assaulting' Pupil

An Ikeja S*xual Offences Court yesterday remanded two drivers of a private school in Lagos, at the Kirikiri prison for allegedly assaulting a pupil.

Tony Akpan and Mrs Itoro Wilson of Ritmunds Favourfield School, Magodo, were said to have allegedly inserted their fingers into the pupil’s private parts.

This act was allegedly committed on October 20, last year.

Akpan and Wilson were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and s*xual assault before Justice Abiola Soladoye.

Prosecuting counsel Akin George alleged that Akpan assaulted the victim s*xually and caused bruises in her private parts.

He said Wilson, despite having knowledge of the incident, covered up the crime.

Led in evidence by George, the victim’s father said when his daughter returned from school, she went to the toilet.

He said when he cleaned her up, he found out that she had pains in her private parts.

He said he told his wife, adding that when the girl was questioned, she said Akpan inserted fingers in her private parts.

The victim’s father said: “We phoned the assistant bus driver, but her response was suspicious.

“When we called the proprietress, she promised to investigate the matter. After her investigation, she claimed that the drivers were innocent.”

He said they took their daughter to Mirabel Centre at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja and got a report confirming their fear that she had been sexually assaulted.

He said based on the report, the matter was reported to the police and the defendants were arrested.

Akpan and Wilson pleaded not guilty.

The defence counsel, E.R. Fekumo, implored the court to grant his clients bail. He said they were framed up because of a quarrel between the victim’s father and Akpan.

Justice Sholadoye dismissed the bail request and ordered the defendants to be remanded in prison.

She adjourned till November 22.
